Massive Earthquake in Chile

Chile needs your prayers. The South American country, located on the earthquake-prone Ring of Fire, was struck by a massive 8.8 earthquake in the dark, early morning hours of February 27. The quake is known to have killed at least 700 people so far and has badly damaged more than half a million homes.

Black History Month - The Underground Railroad

Celebrating Black History Month, we remember Baptist involvement in the Underground Railroad that helped slaves escape from the United States to freedom in eastern Canada.

Because slavery in the United States wasn’t abolished until the end of the Civil War in 1865, more than 100,000 slaves managed to find freedom by escaping to Canada. Along with Christians of many other denominations, Baptists were actively involved in helping slaves to freedom.

Lent Begins

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17th. This 40-day period of solemn reflection and remembrance and sol begins the 40-day period of Lent that leads us to the joyous celebration of Christ’s resurrection on Easter. Typically, Lent is a period of prayer, penitence and self-denial as we grieve for our own sins and the necessity of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice of His own life on the cross for our sins.
