God at the Olympics

BCY News

With Sidney Crosby’s overtime and game-winning goal, Canada won more gold medals than any nation in Olympic Winter Games history. Yet even greater things have happened during the 17 days of the Olympic Games in Vancouver: God has been at work.

  • Churches in key public corridors opened their doors for big screen viewing of sports events and concerts, creating opportunities for Christian witness. Hundreds of people spent times of prayer in churches that opened their doors for the games.
  • More than 400,000 cups of coffee and hot chocolate were given out by more than 900 volunteers at 14 warming stations.
  • Mexico’s First Lady called the International Prayer Centre on Keats Island to thank everyone for praying for the leadership in the Americas and Canada.

Thank you to all Canadian Baptist churches across Canada that have donated more than $500,000 for earthquake relief in Haiti.

“We are amazed by the generosity and compassion of Canadian Baptists.  It is evident that the plight of the Haitian people has touched the hearts of people in a way that is real and inspiring.” says Gary Nelson, General Secretary of CBM. “We are grateful to the churches and rejoice in the compassionate response of mercy—and we hold a deep sense of responsibility for the stewardship of those resources in continued rehabilitation work.”

Thank you for all your gifts of compassion to Haiti and around the world. To continue to give to The Sharing Way’s long-term development projects that bring hope to the poor, please go to www.cbmin.org
