For those of you who are following withinterest the Listening Sessions and their subsequent covenant comments, youwill be interested in hearing from those that came from the Vancouver IslandChurches on February 2nd. A very wide range of church experiences were present. Warmly, In Christ, Jeremy Bell Vancouver Island – 9 participating churches, 1 report First Baptist, Victoria – continued prayerful and financial support of the CBWC New Life, Duncan – utilizing the support in place through Carey TheologicalCollege and Carey Institute in leadership and theological training; continueour involvement in the STEP Kenya initiative with CBM; assist financially Emmanuel, Victoria – continue to be an authentic and loving community of faithin the university neighbourhood of Victoria First Baptist, Nanaimo – continued financial and prayer support; placing theresources of facilities and staff skills for use by the CBWC; supporting CBMmissionaries Comox – being a credible witness to the gospel of Christ in ourcommunity and changing the perception in our community concerning our churchand the identity of the CBWC Port Alberni – continuing to pray for one CBWC church or ministry on aweekly basis. We currently do this with the churches and ministries of theV.I.A. Gateway – encouraging a greater unity within CBWC Western Community – sharing our ministry of ACTS initiative with ourdenomination as we continue to develop it as a ministry of parish for ourcommunity; share Pastor Mike Oshiro’s gifts Mustard Seed – carrying through an evangelistic thrust through amagazine called “Why” at easter; working on a family center to begin to dealwith cause of poverty; support denominational projects Jubilee (report) – very much in agreement with initiatives supportive ofthe poor and needy, and the emerging interest in contemporary expressions of“church” |
