Royal Oak Community church has decided to close after 86 years of ministry in Burnaby, BC, effective December 31, 2011. Although there is sadness in this decision, there is much to celebrate. The church is inviting all former and current members, adherents and friends of Royal Oak to a Celebration Service on Sunday, January 15 at 6:30 pm.
Please join with the congregation to celebrate the church’s effective ministry and service to its Burnaby community, to praise God for His goodness and faithfulness over the past 86 years, and to pray for a new future congregation. There will be a worship service with a reception following. All are welcome to come and share your stories, recollections and photos. There will be an ‘open mic’ opportunity. When Jim Walton, pastor of Burnaby North Baptist heard the phone ring on Christmas Eve, he
almost didn’t answer it. He was just about to sit down to dinner and was preoccupied with a
bad cold, the impending Christmas Eve service being held jointly for the first time with Emmaus
Community Fellowship, and he knew that in the midst of Christmas celebrations with his daughter
and her husband who were flying to her husband’s family in Ontario Christmas Day!
