Albert Edward Milton

April 26, 1930 - July 21, 2010

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ed Milton on July 21, 2010 at the age of 80 years. Ed passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the Rosedale Hospice after a lengthy illness. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of fifty-eight years, Muriel; five children and their spouses, Doug and Colleen Milton, Lorraine and David Smith, Sharon and Dan Wirzba, Dave and Bev Milton, Carolyn and Philippe Reicher; eight grandchildren, Ben (Shanna) Milton, Eric (Lisa) Milton, Jamie and Andrew Smith, Steve Wirzba, Sharaya Milton, Jean-Luc and Nastassia Reicher; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Abby Milton.

Ed was born in Fernie, BC, the eighth of nine children, and grew up in the Peace River region of northern Alberta where he married Muriel Frederickson in 1952. After studying at the University of Alberta and McMaster Divinity College in Hamilton, he enjoyed a long and varied career that included time in Bolivia, many years as Assistant Principal at the Baptist Leadership Training School in Calgary, and several years as Pastor at Altadore Baptist Church. Ed returned to full-time university studies at the age of fifty, obtaining his PhD in Religious Studies at McMaster University. He enjoyed sixteen fulfilling years teaching at Brandon University before retiring at the age of seventy. He and Muriel then moved back to Calgary to be close to their family.

Ed valued and enjoyed family and friends, learning and teaching, other cultures and languages, music, sports and the natural world. He was a man of integrity and an inspiring and warm-hearted teacher who was held in high regard by all who knew him. His compassionate nature and genuine interest in others will be fondly remembered by all those whose lives he shared.

A Memorial Service will be held at Altadore Baptist Church (4304 - 16 Street S.W.) on Wednesday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the A.J.D. Milton Memorial Scholarship Fund at Brandon University (270 - 18 Street, Brandon, MB R7A 6A9), a scholarship established by Ed in his father's memory, or to the Rosedale Hospice (920 - 7A Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2M 3J3).

Condolences may be forwarded to the family through www.commemorativeservices.ca

The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. J. Lategan and nurse Belinda at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and to the staff and volunteers at the Rosedale Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

Wilfred Highfield

February 5, 1914 - July 14, 2010

With a great sense of loss the family of Pastor Wilfred Highfield announces his passing on July 14. Throughout his long life, Wilfred generously loved, sheltered and inspired his extended family and all those he came in touch with as he shared his message of salvation. He was born in Dauphin, Manitoba and was a WWII Veteran of the Royal Canadian Engineers and Intelligence Corp. He pastored in churches in Ucluelet, Nanaimo, Vancouver, Prince Rupert, Terrace, Nipawin and was Chaplin of his Legion Branch. He was 96, and lived his life well.

Wilf earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from UBC in 1966. He is predeceased by his devoted wife Margery and his stepson Ed. Wilfred is survived by Elsbeth his loving wife of forty-two years, his children Joani and David and their spouses, stepchildren, Elsie, Anna Marie, Gerhard, Karen, and their spouses, seventeen grandchildren and their spouses, thirty-two great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Although his family and friends will greatly miss this wonderful, loving, gentle man, we will all continue to celebrate his life and his accomplishments. A Service in his memory will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 20, Sunrise Baptist Church, 7015 - 32 Avenue N.E., Calgary.

We are so grateful for his long service for God’s Kingdom.

James Ronald (Ron) King

September 11, 1915 – July 5, 2010

Ron was an active member and leader at Kaleden Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Prince George. He was an excellent preacher, teacher, and playwright who produced a number of plays for church and youth groups. Some will recall a musical production he wrote for the 100th anniversary of the beginnings of Baptist work in Western Canada, for the Baptist Union Convention in Edmonton. He was an enthusiastic organizer and leader at both Camp Sorec and Maple Springs in the Okanagan Valley. Ron was a man of faith and integrity, with an amazing intellect and sense of humour.

We who remain are grateful to have shared his life: his wife Helen, children Douglas, Elaine, Meredith, Barbara, Judith, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, brothers Fred, John, David and Raymond and a large extended family. We will miss him.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 6, at Linden Gardens, 351 Linden Avenue, Kaleden. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Baptist Ministries at www.cbmin.org to help with third world development.

Ken Hawley

It is with profound sadness that we accept the passing of our much respected friend Ken Hawley, on May 17, 2010.

Ken bravely fought a 2 year battle with aggressive prostate cancer. His positive attitude and deep belief that he could rise above each challenge enabled him to make a difficult situation manageable. Born in Vancouver, raised in Kelowna and returning to Vancouver to attend UBC, Ken graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Commerce. He started his career with Confederation Life. In 1986 he joined The Rogers Group Financial where he excelled in serving his many faithful clients.
