Interim Alberta Regional Minister Appointed

Canadian Baptists of Western Canada is pleased to announce the temporary appointment of Dr. Gerry Fisher as the Interim Alberta Regional Minister.

Effective immediately. Dr. Fisher will serve as Alberta’s main regional contact for churches and pastors requiring assistance. He will also be responsible for the pastoral settlement portfolio, assisting all Canadian Baptist churches in all regions as they work through the process of seeking and hiring new pastoral staff. Dr. Fisher will serve in these capacities until the end of 2009. He is well suited for this interim position because he has served for many years as the Executive Minister of Canadian Baptists of Western Canada and has a long-standing and intimate knowledge of Canadian Baptist churches and their needs.

Brightview Baptist Celebrates 100 Years

Earlier last month Brightview Baptist Church (near Wetaskiwin, Alberta), celebrated it's 100th anniversary as a church. An event was held on August 7th through 9th at the church with music, a banquet and many memories. The Sunday morning service with Rev. Syd Waterman as guest speaker was also a special highlight.

Doris Turpin, the organizer of the event mentioned that the congregation was thrilled with the many who came from great distances to be with them for the occasion.

The Ark Re-Opens

The Ark Youth Centre in Penticton re-opened on Friday August 7th

In April, early on a Sunday morning, the newly launched Ark Youth Centre at First Baptist Church, Penticton was flooded with backed-up sewage from the main pipes. This inevitably closed down the emerging youth ministry with kids in the city - a ministry that had built up contact with about 50 non-churched kids since the Ark opened in January 2008.
