Colleen Allan is supposed to be retired. Not a chance.
A Canadian pioneer in addictions research and counselling, she stepped down in April from her
job at the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba after working 47 years in the field. Yet instead of
resting, Colleen, who attends Cornerstone Baptist Church In Winnipeg, is committed to continue
with her life’s work to assist others to understand addictions and walk alongside individuals and
families whose lives are devastated by them. Today, Colleen, as president and a representative
of the Business and Professional Women of Manitoba, is putting much of her energy into studying
the effects of combining high energy drinks with alcohol and the impact of alcohol on foetal
development.

When Jim Walton, pastor of Burnaby North Baptist heard the phone ring on Christmas Eve, he
almost didn’t answer it. He was just about to sit down to dinner and was preoccupied with a
bad cold, the impending Christmas Eve service being held jointly for the first time with Emmaus
Community Fellowship, and he knew that in the midst of Christmas celebrations with his daughter
and her husband who were flying to her husband’s family in Ontario Christmas Day!
