BCY NewsEver wonder where your pocket knife or water bottle goes when the security agents at YVR airport confiscate it? A 5-minute Global BC news clip about the YVR Chaplaincy answers the mystery. The news segment for the Travel Guide section of the 6 pm news on March 17 explains that lost and confiscated items end up in a thrift store run by the Chaplaincy. Sales of hundreds of items cover one quarter of its operating costs; the rest is covered by donations. The news clip also follows the story of 2 brothers from Pakistan helped by Layne as the first friendly face they saw. They not only became citizens but painted the Chaplaincy offices as a way to say ‘thank you.’ Layne stresses in the video that the chaplaincy is a welcoming place for people to find comfort when they are travelling for stressful reasons, such as immigration or an illness in the family. Go here and click on Thursday's video to view the news clip. |

CBWC AnnouncementOn Friday, March 11, an 8.9 scale earthquake struck off the northeast shore of Japan. Although a few hundred were killed in the initial earthquake, a tsunami has been far more devastating. Waves more than 10 metres high crashed with the speed of a jumbo jet into the eastern shore of Japan, overwhelming villages and washing away thousands of precious lives. The tsunami has also crippled the Fukushima Daiichi which is in danger of experiencing a meltdown which would send radioactive particles into the atmosphere with potentially lethal consequences. We urge Canadians to be in prayer for those affected by this crisis. Donations can be made through Canadian Baptist Ministries to The Sharing Way’s Japan Earthquake Relief fund by clicking here or by calling the CBM office at 905-821-3533.
