![]() Baptists arrived in North America on the legendary Mayflower in 1620, along with many Puritans. 140 years later, in 1760, Baptist minister and evangelist Ebenezer Moulton arrived in Nova Scotia along with about 1200 settlers from New England, most attracted by guarantees of religious freedom. New Brunswick Moulton founded the first indigenous church with Nova Scotian converts in Horton, now known as Wolfville, in 1765. After about 8 years, the church foundered but a core group of members started Horton Baptist Church in 1778 in the same village. This congregation, now 210 years old and renamed Wolfville United Baptist Church, is the oldest continuing Baptist church in Canada.
