Summer 2009 AppealNanton First Baptist, Nanton Alberta Located in the foothills of Alberta, an hour south of Calgary, the people of Nanton Baptist Church have been actively working to fulfill their mission that states, “We exist to passionately experience God, His Word, and serve our community”. The small congregation of 40 people have been actively engaging the community by housing the Nanton Food Bank, annually hosting the Alberta Health screen-test program, donating their parking lot for a local day-care, and putting on Couples’ Dessert & Movie Nights for the community, as well as an annual VBS. Their Club DJ of 30 children includes 25 from outside the congregation, and over 90% of the church Youth Group are also from unchurched families. If that is not enough, the congregation fundraises each year to send unchurched kids to CBWC’s Mill Creek Camp. This year, seven children from the community got to attend Mill Creek and hear the gospel presented to them. Although Nanton Baptist enjoys stable leadership through Pastor Steve and Nancy Pike, the church facilities are older and in need of some “freshening up”. The congregation is asking for Century II funds to update their church foyer through a complete paint job. A local, trusted paint contractor has submitted an estimate of about $8500.00, but this small, rural congregation needs help to come up with the funding. Through a Century II grant Nanton Baptist can continue to faithfully fund the many creative ministries that they are committed to, while having the Century II funds complete the urgent updates on their building that will transform a dark, dingy foyer into a bright & welcoming space that cries out “We’re so happy to see you!” |
