Reading the Bible with Heart & Mind The Bible is a great gift, a wonderful resource for the spiritual life. But we need to learn how to read it, and the key to good reading is found in the expression "with heart and mind." We take the nature of Scripture seriously; and, we read with hearts that are eager to respond to the witness of the Spirit through the ancient text. This seminar will provide participants with a practical approach to reading the ancient Christian text. For new Christians, this will be an opportunity to discover that the Bible is remarkably accessible to them; and for those who are familiar with the Bible, the week-end will be a renewed call to restore the Scriptures to their rightful place in our lives. Gordon Smith Gordon T. Smith, is the president of reSource Leadership International, an agency that fosters excellence in theological education in the developing world. He is also an ordained minister, and an adjunct professor theology at Regent College, Vancouver. Gordon is married to Joella, an artist, and together they have two grown sons. Gordon’s books include: The Voice of Jesus: Discernment, Prayer and the Witness of the Spirit (IVPress, 2003), and A Holy Meal: The Lord’s Supper in the life of the Church (Baker, 2005). |
