| Summer Story: Camp Wapiti |

![]() Camp Wapiti is a wilderness camp that operates just 16 km south of Grande Prairie, in Northwest Alberta. We've been in operation for 46 years, and this summer was one of our most exciting yet. This year we welcomed 266 campers and over 100 staff and volunteers for 6 weeks of experiencing “God in Nature.” Read more after the link. The “God in Nature” theme is central at Camp Wapiti. Over the course of our 6 week residential program students experienced everything from playing Wide Area Games in large groups, to a variety of Gang Time cabin activities. Campers were encouraged to build their own shelters, taught valuable wilderness skills, given the opportunity to go on a variety of hikes, spend time in the Craft Shack creating, bake their own pies or brew their own homemade tea made with local berries and plants, and generally explore the Wapiti Valley and learn as much about what God has given us as possible. Many students responded to the Gospel, and many took the opportunity to get to know God a little better while they were with us. Even more importantly though, God showed Himself to the campers and staff that joined us for the summer. One camper told us that “God spoke to me and I need to listen a little more carefully to Him.” Another camper told us “God told me I'm beautiful.” And another camper heard God's voice call her name. What an amazing God that we have, that He would delight in giving such great gifts to His children. Staff were equipped and prepared not just for work at camp, but for what God has in store in the days ahead. Some of our staff had plans for the fall months completely changed when they spent focused time asking God what He wanted them to do with their time. Camp Wapiti looks forward to the increasing opportunity that is ahead, in continuing to show everyone, young and old, just how much this Great God we serve loves them.
