![]() Alberta NewsGull Lake Centre is celebrating its 90th anniversary on August 13 and invites everyone to join them as they rejoice in all the good things that have come out of nearly a century of camping. This celebration starts at 2 pm at the Centre and will continue into the evening. Steve Roadhouse, Gull Lake Centre’s new Executive Director, says the party will be a celebration not just of the camping ministry but will be an opportunity to “thank God for his continued blessing and for providing time and time again so that camp could continue to run and people could be invited into relationship with God and with others. We are so thankful for what God has done year after year, summer after summer, memory after memory. We serve a very good God.” Gull Lake is expecting to welcome as many as 730 campers and more than 50 students to their Leadership Training and Discipleship (LTD) program this summer. Although he grew up in a Christian family, he first encountered God as the living Christ in 1998 when he was 15. Seated at a picnic table near Memorial Hall during a prayer session, he made a choice to: ”dedicate my life to following and serving an almighty God who created me and loves me. It was at that moment that I knew that I wanted to follow God and everything in my life since then has been based on that decision.” Many hundreds of campers have made similar decisions while at camp. As Steve says, “God feels thicker here. I know that is theologically untrue, but I don’t know how to explain it any other way. God just feels closer, bigger, more intimate, more saturated at Gull Lake than anywhere else I have been.” So, we encourage you to go to Gull Lake on August 13th to catch a glimpse of this place where God is thicker. Share in the celebrations, join with hundreds of others from the Gull Lake family and learn what the plans are for the 85-year-old Memorial Hall. Festivities start at 2pm with various camp activities and displays of Gull Lake’s history. Supper will be at 5pm followed by a program and dessert. There will be a time of worship and praise at 8pm.
