It promises to be an exciting weekend, packed with relevant and helpful information. Effective youth ministries require leaders who are ready to mentor young people, lead them to a deeper relationship with God, find ways to make faith inviting, organize activities and events and still have time for their own soul care. This youth leader training weekend will support all novice, learning and experienced youth workers, whether paid or volunteer, to improve their ministry skills, gain new insights into the dynamics of youth ministry, and deepen their own relationship with God. Chris Folmsbee will be the main speaker for the weekend. He will lead two sessions on growing in Christ and mentoring, as well as a breakout session on mentoring. Chris directs Barefoot Ministries, a non-profit youth ministry training and publishing company in Kansas that exists to help youth workers guide young people into Christian formation for the mission of God. He is the author of several books including Story, Signs and Sacred Rhythms: A Narrative Approach to Youth Ministry. He has been a youth pastor for more than 12 years. For more information on Chris, go to www.anewkindofyouthministry.com The weekend is organized around a series of breakout sessions led by many of the outstanding youth pastors who work in Canadian Baptist churches across Western Canada. Acting Youth Director Claire McLean will be speaking about “Approaches to Youth Ministry”. Blake Holt former youth pastor of McLaurin Memorial Baptist, Edmonton will tackle Soul Care and Andy Moffat of FBC, Olds, will speak about making Connections that Count. Jared Patterson of Bonavista Baptist, Calgary, will speak about leading group discussions, Chris Folmsbee will speak about being an effective volunteer and role model while Julie Parr, who works in a crisis pregnancy centre and Graeme Watt of Trinity Baptist, Sherwood Park, will talk about how to talk about sex. Julie will talk about age-appropriate and gender-appropriate ways to talk to teens, Blake will also give tips on mentoring and Gull Lake Executive Director Steve Roadhouse will lead a discussion on a Games Toolbox for youth. The cost for the weekend is minimal – just $99 includes accommodation, meals, registration and T-shirt.
