With 1.7 million children and youth of camping age in Western Canada, we recognize that the number of camping spots available in our 8 residential camps can’t possibly meet the need.  Through an Urban Camping umbrella ministry, we are bringing camping to the city to provide more children with safe, innovative and fun camping options where they can learn the good news about God in their own neighborhoods and communities. Ultimately, our goal is to reach 10% of Western children and youth through camping initiatives.  Local congregations are developing urban camping together with youth leaders experienced in camping ministries and in partnership with organizations such as A Rocha, Canadian Baptist Ministries, World Vision and local recreation centres.

These church and community-based programs offer a wide range of Christ-centred activities – from Bible stories to water sports -- for children and youth that reflect the CBWC’s values of inviting faith, acting in mercy and cultivating leaders.

Rod directs the CBWC’s urban camping program to reach children and youth where they live and in innovative ways. Rod is also the liaison with Rocky Mountain College, coordinating participation in The Edge, an 8-month post-secondary leadership program.
