1. North American Indigenous Games Partner with New Life Community Church as a volunteer at the Native Games in Duncan, as well as hosting some relational and service events. Location: Duncan, BC Dates: August 2-10, 2008 Cost: $175-200 per person Activities: to be determined Requirements: Participants must be 16 years old or older. 2. Summer Urban Placement at Mustard Seed Work with Mustard Seed Ministry in one or more of a series of urban ministry opportunities that combine service with the experience of living fully immersed in urban poverty culture. Location: Edmonton, Alberta Dates: July 20-25, July 27- August 1, August 10-15, August 17-20 Cost: $175 per person + 750 per group to provide a meal for the community. Activities: Meal preparation and service, work projects and teaching Requirements: None 3. Summer Day Camp with Urban Promises Work with inner city kids in a summer day camp run by Urban Promises, an inner city mission in East Vancouver. Location: East Vancouver, BC Dates: July & August Cost: $200 per person Activities: Participate in summer day camp activities, teaching times around inner city issues, and opportunities for fun with local youth. Requirements: Grade 8 and up welcome. 4. Internship with Urban Promises Experience full immersion into life in an inner city setting through an internship with Urban Promises. Location: East Vancouver, BC Dates: 7 weeks in July & August; year-round option available Cost: $700 for July & August; Interns commit to raise some financial support to be determined at time of application Activities: Volunteer in the community, work in after school programs for inner city kids, teach classes, take trips around Vancouver Requirements: Age 18 + 5. Summer Overnight Camp First Baptist Church in Kitimat is looking for partners to run a two-week residential overnight summer camp. One week will be dedicated to children; the second will be for youth. Location: Kitimat, BC Dates: July 28- August 3 for children’s camp; August 4-9 for youth camp Cost: Only your travel costs to get to Kitmat! Housing and food provided! Activities: Counselor, kitchen staff, speakers, general camp help. Requirements: A willingness to serve the Kitmat community. 6. Church Planting Join Christian Community Chapel, a new church plant focused on home churches and a community-centered café in Carlyle. Internship is a possibility. Location: Carlyle, Saskatchewan Dates: Late Spring Cost: To be determined Activities: Help teach in home churches; set up a community café. Requirements: Willingness to serve in any way needed! 7. Urban Plunge Experience 3-5 days fully immerses in the poorest neighborhood in Canada. Much time is given to teaching and reflection on the system and issues in this place. Location: East Vancouver, BC Dates: 3-5 days Cost: $150-200 Activities: Times of teaching on relevant issues such as homelessness, substance abuse and poverty; volunteering with various ministries; living in a Downtown Eastside hotel. Requirements: Participants must be 16+.
